Montreal Footnotes Part I

Portraiture

This was my third time shooting in Montreal, and I have to say, every time I go back I enjoy it that much more.  I am not a fan of large cities, but I make an exception for Montreal.

I went there to make photographs, of course, but I also went there with a lot of questions about the “pretty girl photo”, and what motivates people to make them (or to pose for them).  I heard many responses, but for me I still consider the matter a mystery.  I just like to make such photos and that’s all there really is to it.  And yet, when it comes to showing those images, I never know in what context to present them.  Perhaps a more important question would be, “Why do I want someone to see this?”

Above and below are a few Instax scans of Nathalie.  It was my third time photographing her, and each time things change.  It’ll be quite some time before the film gets back from the lab, but I’ve got a lot of Instax (and not just of Nathalie) to share between then and now.

I am a film photographer based in Prince Edward County. I make images of people, places, and things - you know, nouns.

  1. Great pics buddy and I´m not foot fetishist ;-) ! My fav is the first one, cause I really like the combination of feet the wooden floor and the retro blanket, and the fifth one cause of the pretty unnatural high heel wearing position of her feet.

    • Thanks. I’m not into feet by any means either, but for whatever reason, my favourite images from the Instax taken on that balcony just happen to feature feet. I think I just liked the lines, and everything taken above the balcony line was distracting.
