Curate Your Social Media

opinion, social media

One of the best things I ever did was unfollow nearly all of those who I followed on Instagram.  Social Media is not just networking, it is entertainment, obligation, and a chore.  Instagram (all of them really) want you to connect all of your accounts, follow and tag everyone, and share, share, SHARE!  What’s the point?  Well, the answer to that depends on the person.

For me, I use a platform like Instagram to see inspiring photography from photographers I love.  I don’t want to see your daily selfie or your latte.  I am just not that interested.  By removing all but the photographers I love, and who just post their work, it has transformed by feed into a thing of beauty.  Think of it like the television channels in a cable package, I just want to see what interests me.   I would like to propose to you to think about what you want to see in your feed, and unfollow (or follow) accordingly.  Don’t worry, none of my friends got upset when I followed them, mainly because my friends and I do not communicate via Social Media.  We hang out in person.

I am a film photographer based in Prince Edward County. I make images of people, places, and things - you know, nouns.
