Honestly, I am hesitant to call it a project, as I don’t feel it is focused enough, but I cannot think of a better word. I have made a commitment to myself to take at least one photo a day and post it to my Tumblr (jj365.tumblr.com).
Now concerning Tumblr, the only reason I got on there was to follow various photographers who are making work that I enjoy looking at. Personally, I find flickr and 500px irritating. It all seems to be one big stroke job, with everyone stroking each other off – to use a George Carlin phrase. Tumblr, I find, is more like a news feed of stuff that you get to curate yourself. It’s a simple place to go to see cool shit, without having to sort through all the touchy-feely personal stuff and tired recycled memes on Facebook. And posting a photo a day here would just generate a lot of mediocre content. This 365 experiment is not about making cool photos, but about just taking photos for myself everyday, sharing them, and not having to give a crap about only showing the best of the best, or trying to figure what you want to say, or pitching yourself to a group of people. It just is what it is, and I am hoping for it to be an organic and stress free project.
